STILL HOPEFUL

NEW PRIMARY SCHOOL QUESTION OF REPAIRS TO OLD BUILDING "The Board is still hopeful of obtaining a grant to enable a new primary school to be erected on the site recently acquired, and obviously is not anxious to spend more money than can be avoided on the old school building," stated the Auckland Education Board's architect in a letter read at last night's meeting-of the- Cambridge School Committee. Permission was given for a number of repairs to be carried out. The committee's request for certain repairs to be undertaken, to the shelter-sheds, was granted, on the understanding that the cost did not exceed £B. It was stated that two bubble fountain fittings were being forwarded to be fixed in suitable positions. . Two coir mats for use in the primer division had also been ordered. With regard to the committee's request for an additional heatingpoint in the Secondary Department, the board stated that instructions could be given to a local electrician for the work to be undertaken. The secretary, Mr R. S. Entwistle, was instructed to arrange for the work to be carried out. Heating Facilities Information was received that the Department of Education had approved a grant towards the cost of installing improved heating facilities in the class-rooms in the main building at the primary school As the cost of fuel will be borne by the committee, and the winter is practically over, it was decided to defer the matter until a later date, when running costs have been ascertained. Te Miro Consolidation The proposed consolidation of the Te Miro School was discussed, and a plan showing two alternative routes was tabled by Mr H. J. Nelson. It was decided to explain the suggested arrangements to the Te Miro School Committee, so that further details may be ascertained. As the most favoured route includes Aspin's Road, it was decided to communicate with the Waikato County Council requesting that this portion be metalled. The deputy-chairman, Mr W. R. Garrard, presided, and also present were Mrs P. Craig, Messrs H. E. Amyes, C. G. Wallace, W. 'Moore, H. W. Nelson, L. A. Potts, H. Burge, J. G. Catran (headmaster), and R. S. Entwistle (secretary).
