OBITUARY

MRS HARRIETT L. DAVYS FORTY YEARS IN CAMBRIDGE The death occurred on Thursday, of Mrs Harriett Langdon Davys, a very well-known Cambridge resident, aged 83 years. She came to Cambridge in 1900, and in recent years had lived with her daughter, Mrs A. R. Holmes, of Victoria Road. Mrs Davys was born at Treborough, Somerset, England, and left London with her father and mother, Mr and (Mrs Thomas Langdon Norman, on October 11, 1863, in the sailing ship "Tiptree," arriving at Auckland on February 1, 1864. She married the late Henry John Davys in 1878. It is of interest to note that Mrs Davys was the second cousin to Sir George Williams, the founder of the Y.M.C.A. She was a very active woman, and took a keen interest in the affairs of the district, right up to the time of her death. She was closely associated with the affairs of St. Andrew's Church. Mr Davys died some years ago, and.she is survived by one son, Mr H. E. Davys, and one daughter, Mrs A. R. Holmes. There are six grandchildren and three great-grand-children. The funeral will leave the residence of Mrs Holmes at 2 p.m. this afternoon for St. Andrew's Church and later for the Cambridge cemetery. ...
