AN OLD MAORI WOMAN

BURIED FOR MANY YEARS

The huma'n skeleton which was found on ; Garter’s Flat on Monday by Mr John Segedin, and which was collected by Constable C. H. Maisey has been examined by Mr A. A. Moore, a dentist, of Cambridge, who expressed the opinion that these remains are of a Maori; woman of considerable age. The teeth were in a very advanced state of decay and wear, several nerves being exposed, said Mr Moore. The size of the!skull clearly showed that the remains'were of a woman. The person mas probably buried some considerable time before Cambridge was first settled. The site of the discovery, was where , the Maoris congregated ’in dimes of tribal hostilities. •
