POLO HONOURS

CAMBRIDGE TEAM’S MISSION HEAVY EXPENSES INVOLVED A subscription list is being opened for donations to go towards the expenses of the Cambridge polo team which will represent the North Island in the Savile Cup tournament, to be held at Christchurch, commencing on April sth, In addition to the travelling expenses of the four players, the cost of transporting twenty ponies by train and steamer from Cambridge to Christchurch and back, as well as feeding them there for a week, will be Considerable. The latter item alone will be not less than £2O. Cambridge has “put itself on the map” in various ways during the last twelve months, and the selection of the Cambridge team as the sole representatives of the North Island clubs will further enhance the town’s prestige. There is every reason therefore for Cambridge people to show their practical appreciation of the honour paid to their team and at the same time demonstrate the sportsmanship for which they are famous.

If sufficient funds are forthcoming the Cambridge Club will also enter a junior team for the Junior Cup, which will be played for at the same time. There is only one junior team in the South Island, and if two teams make the journey it is more than likely that both cups will return with them.

Subscriptions will be received by any of the officials of the Polo Club, or at The Independent Office. All amounts received will be acknowledged through the columns of this paper. Already a total of £73 10/- has been subscribed. The list of acknowledgments is as follows;
