Repair of the Roads.—An assurance that the Waikato County Council will endeavour to keep the roads in its area in a good state of repair was received by the Hamilton Advisory Committee of the Automobile Association (Auckland), at a .meeting last evening.

Waipa Reading Loan.—Successful meetings have been held in the southern parts of Waipa County, including Leamington and Kaipaki, in connection with the proposal to raise a big roading loan to seal about 70 , miles of the principal thoroughfares in the county, the work to be spread oyer about four years. The county chairman, Mr S. C. B. ,Macky, has detailed the plan, and at the close resolutions, expressing full accord have been carried unanimously.

Bees Cause Accident.—The invasion of his motor car by a swarm of bees when he was driving towards Feilding: resulted in Mr A. C. Hare, of Cheltenham, being obliged to stop the vehicle. He had hardly stopped when another vehicle ran into his car from behind, causing extensive damage. In the confusion that followed, the bees left ,Mr Hare’s car and settled on the other vehicle, much to The consternation of the driver. No injuries were suffered by the drivers. Gold in Soil.—Moments of excitement occasionally occur even in ; a soil-testing laboratory, as was shown by an incident recalled by Mr R. L. James, of Canterbury University College, and son of Mrs S. R. James, of Cambridge, during cussion on a paper given before the conference of the New Zealand Society of Civil Engineers. He said that one of his students became very excited when he was examining soil from Cromwell Flat, Otago, and discovered a speck of gold. “Unfortunately we did not find any more,” Mr James added.
