THE FEBRUARY MEETING

GENERAL BUSINESS The monthly meeting of the Cambridge Bbrough Council was held on Thursday evening, when there were present the Mayor, Mr C. H. Priestley, and Crs Edgar : James, A. H. Nicoll, Mervyn Wells, Geo. Calvert, K. L. Wilkinson, W. Moore, F. T. Ray (Town Clerk) arujf ;T. Dix (eiir gineer). A - The Cambridge Domain Board wrote stating that effective steps had been taken to reduce the mosquito pest in Te Koutu Park, following a request from the council. It was further stated that certain improvement work was in hand at the eastern end of the lake which would greatly reduce the mosquito pest in that vicinity.

The District Health Officer, Mr W. Dawson, reported that he had visited the premises of Mr T. H. Moss, and found that he was carrying on the drying of rabbit skins, without permission of the local authority. He stated that Moss had been warned on several occasions and everything done in order to persuade him to carry out the conditions of the Health Act. It was further stated that in an old stable, he was preparing rabbits for sale, in a building which the inspector considered was quite unsuitable for the purpose. The officer requested that Moss' be asked to cease using the building for these purposes.. It was decided to carry out the Health Officer’s request. Re-valuation of Boroughi , The Valuation Department advised that it was expected to put the revaluation of the Cambridge Borough in hand during the coming financial year and to supply a valuation roll revised as at March 31, 1937. The account for the council’s share of the cost will not be payable until 1937-38. The council has been urgently requesting a re-valuation for six or seven years, and the announcement was well received by the meeting. It was decided to acknowledge the communication and to express pleasure that the matter would be seen to in the near future. The council decided that the Town Clerk should represent the borough at the Municipal Conference at Napier, commencing on March 4. Cr Moore voted against the resolution. An invitation to attend the opening of St. Peter’s School this afternoon, was accepted with thanks. The Mayor of Auckland, Mr E. Davis, wrote in connection with the raising of funds for the endowment of the Wilson Home for crippled children at Auckland. A public appeal was suggested, and it was decided that a meeting be held in the near future.

The council agreed to eliminate meter rents to all users of the borough water supply. Cr Wells raised the question of removing rubbish from private properties, and it was decided that a local carrier who will collect his own fees be appointed.
