POLO

NEW GROUND AT CLAUDELANDS

PROGRESS OF LEVELLING

The area inside the trotting course at the Waikato Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s showgrounds at Claudelands is being converted into a polo ground for the Auckland Provincial Polo Association, which has arranged for a lease of the property. In the past the association’s ground has been at Cambridge. The work involves the levelling of the area and the replacement ploughing of the top-soil. A considerable amount of under-surface drainage has also been done. The surface soil will be reduced Vo a fine tilth and will be sown in gmass this month. In addition to the' 15 acres required for the use of the Polo Association four acres at the southern end are being levelled and grassed lor show purposes. The work being done for the Polo Association will cost £7OO, most of which has been raised by public subscription. When the work is completed the association will have one of the finest polo grounds in New Zealand.
