Interesting Relic Of Britain In Early Bronze Age

/"\NE of the most important prehistoric monuments in Great Britain is the Bleasdale wood circle which is situated on Fairsnape Fell in Bowland. It is the only wood circle £nown in Europe that has the original Amber, now about 3500 years old, and lately a good deal of preservation work has been done to it. The circle was discovered at the beI ginning of the century, and its ele- | ments were then exposed. They were (lately discovered to be much decomI posed, and a fund was started by the I Ancient Monuments Society and the 1 Bleasdale Preservation Society to 'raise £IOO, which it was estimated would be sufficient to do what is necessary. Mr and Mrs W. J. Varley, who are in charge of the work, expect to be able to recover the whole plan jof the circle, to preserve chemically 'i the oak blocks which are its main features, and to replace them on the spot by concrete posts. Only two wood circles are known in England, says the “Manchester Guardian.” At Woodhenge, near Stone'henge, only post h<'»l pc were found. The first discovery of Bleasdale was made by an observant farmer, who, looking down from a neighbouring height, saw that a piece of land showed an unusual and regular discolourisation which varied according to the wetness and dryness of the season.
