Unemployment Tax.—At a meet- | ing of the provincial executive of thej New Zealand Farmers’ Union oni Tuesday the report that an increase in the unemployment tax was contemplated was discussed, and it was decided to interview the Minister of Employment on the matter. One speaker declared the position was absurd as far as farmers were con- j cerned, it being almost impossible now to obtain farm labour. “The whole matter needs thorough inv.es- ' tigation,” he added, “and there is no 1 doubt it is grossly unfair to farmers.” So scarce was labour in the : Waikato that harvesters had been : offered 4/- an hour. 1
