Polo Cup Match.—This afternoon the Cambridge polo team will meet Te Awamutu in a challenge match for the Cameron Cup. The game will be played on Alan Kay's ground. Sale of Jewellery.—Messrs R. H. Bright and Company, of Victoria Street, are making special reductions during the last few days of their realisation sale, which will conclude definitely on February 22. Midland Hotel Sale—The whole of the modern furnishings and the antiques of the Midland Hotel will be sold by public auction on Thursday and Friday next. Details of the offering are advertised on page 1. Te Anga Sheep Fair.—There were several Cambridge buyers at the Te Anga Sheep Fair on Tuesday when 7000 sheep of excellent quality were sold. Messrs Gear and Suckling purchased a pen of 198 outstanding four and five-year ewes for £1 6/9 each, and also a pen of 378 four-year ewes at £1 10/6. Mr A. R. Gascoigne bought 85 good s.m. ewes at £1 7/-. Power Reticulation.—The consent of the Local Government Loans Board to a proposal to raise £50,000 for electrical service extensions has been received. by the Central Waikato Electric POwer Board. A poll of ratepayers over a special area comprising all the board's district, including the northern Cambridge district, but with the exception of the Raglan special area, which recently raised a loan, will be held on March 17.

Ragwort Flourishing.—"lf you saw the acres and acres of ragwort flourishing in the King Country you would not be surprised at its spread into the Waikato lands," observed Mr P. E. Dingle at a meeting of the Waikato County Council on Tuesday. The difficulties of clearing weed on native lands was pointed out by several members, and an examination of infested areas throughout the county was left to the clerk, Mr C. F. E. Barton.

Foreign Price of Cigarettes.—The bad quality and the high cost of cigarettes in Germany and France were commented upon in Christchurch by Mr John Oakley, who has returned from a visit of nearly a year to England and the Continent. Mr Oakley said that English cigarettes were the only ones worth smoking in these European countries, but in France their price was equivalent to 2/0 for 10, while even French cigarettes, bad as they were, cost about 1/- for 10.
