TO-NIGHT AND TO-MORROW DOUBLE FEATURE PROGRAMME Margaret Lindsay in "Merry Wives of Reno," and Claire Trevor with the title role in "Elinor Norton" make an attractive programme at the Town Hall Theatre to-night and to-morrow. "Elinor Norton" is a smashing dramatic story which brings to the screen all the suspense and swift-moving romance of the Mary Roberts Rinehart novel on which it is based. Through the pages of • the novel, whose full title is "The State Versus Elinor Norton," thousands'of readers have come to know the trials and terrors of the girl who is transplanted from a. wealthy eastern home to a bleak Montana farmhouse. •Sparkling interludes of comedy alternate with powerful dramatic situations in this screen history of a high-spirited girl and the three men who dominate her life. Other featured members of the cast are Hugh Williams, Norman Foster, Gilbert Roland and Henrietta Crosman. Each of these players registers heavily in a strong role. "Merry Wives of Reno" In "Merry Wives of Reno," Margaret Lindsay plays the part of a young wife whose marital complications take her to Reno, through error. A neighbour of hers is drawn into the same mistaken situation. The attempts of the two husbands to straighten out affairs bring about a ridiculous confusion that abounds in laughs. With the comedy is combined the serious romantic interest of the young couple and Miss Lindsay's emotional work is a fine contrast to her lighter moments. There will be a matinee on Friday at 2 p.m. '' Great Expectations '' On Saturday and Monday,, Charles 'Dickens' immortal mystery, "Great Expectations," will be screened. The story of "Great Expectations" will never grow old. It is just, as fascinating and thrilling to-day as it was almost 100 years ago. Magwitch, the convict; "Pip." the young man of great expectations, Estella, Jaggers, the eccentric Miss Havisham, all wtep out of the pages of the past into vivid, living personalities.
