SOUTH AUCKLAND DISTRICT ATTITUDE TOWARDS WAR A resolution of tho British Methodist Conference condemning war was endorsed by the South Auckland District Synod at To Awamutu this week The rights of those who objected to military service, wore also; considered, and it was resolved to demand that members of the Methodist Church, who, for conscientious reasons, refused to carry arms or participate in war, should have their religious principles honoured. In order to secure some unity of expression it was decided to suggest the convening, as early as possible in 1935, of a meeting of representatives of all the churches to declare the attitude of the Christian Church toward war.

A discussion upon the question of Sunday desecration took place. It was considered the running of.. Sunday trains by the Government, the growth of sports and other matters were creating a growing difficulty.for the churches,' by inducing an atmosphere in antipathy to Christian;:, ideals..^.Sr>e|kers recognised the difficulty: of tW 'question, and stressed the need .of individual effort to a better observance as, being the strongest protest example. ••"'"• ! .
