SOCKET FOR GIRL’S HIP A seven-year-old girl who seemed i doomed to remain a cripple is to-day running about and playing with other children in consequence of a remark- ■ able operation performed at Victoria , Hospital for Children, Tito Street, Chelsea. The child, Gwen Jenkins, of Brookmead Road, Bcddington Lane, was born without a socket to one of her hips. For two years the child had her hips in plaster of Paris. Then the surgeons took a piece of bone from the sound limb, fashioned it into a socket, and placed it in the crippled hip, which was again placed in piaster of Paris. For two years the plaster remained and in May this year the doctors decided to free the limb. They discovered that the operation was a success—up to that . point.
