RESIGNATION OF SECRETARY MENACE OF HAWKERS A meeting of the executive of tne Cambridge Chamber of Commerce was held in the Arawa Hall on Tuesday night. Mr V. G. Boulton, vice-president presided and the following members were present: Messrs H. E. Amyes, E. H. Leigh, C. D. Margan, H. J. Salter, H. Jonasson, and the secretary, Mr W. H. Woolley. : ' The chairman reported having heaird from Mr Woolley that he would not be able to carry on as secretary of the chamber on account of business reasons. Mr Boulton spoke in eulogistio terms of the long and valuable services rendered to the chamber by Mr Woolley. Mr Amyes endorsed Mr Boulton’s remarks and expressed his great regret at Mr Woolley’s decision to retire.

It was resolved to accept Mr Woolley’s resignation with regret, and to place on record the chambdV’s appreciation and thanks of Mr Woolley’s long ’ and faithful services to the local Chamber of Commerce. Mr R. S. Entwisle was appointed the hon. secretary. South Auckland Association A letter was received from the South Auckland Association of Chambers of Commerce, suggesting that the next, quarterly meeting of that body, should be held in Cambridge in February next. Itinerant Traders Several members spoke of the number of hawkers and itinerant traders who were allowed to do business in Cambridge to the detriment of local businesses. It was said that Cambridge was the happy hunting ground of these people. Mention was made of one of these traders who did good business in Cambridge without hindrance, but on moving to a neighbouring town was prosecuted and fined £lO for Lading without a license.

The meeting decided to send a remit to the South Auckland Association With'a view to remedying this unfair trading.

Various suggestions were offered for making the chamber more popular, and it was decided to discuss the matter further at tho next meeting.

A committee, consisting of Messrs V. G. Boulton, H. E l . Amyes and E. H. Leigh was appointed to approach prominent local business-men with a view to securing a president.
