DAFFODIL SHOW

OPENING THIS AFTERNOON 2STH ANNUAL EXHIBITION The 28th annual show of the Cambridge Daffodil Society will open this afternoon, and will be continued tomorrow. Excellent entries have been received in the Narcissi section, many prominent growers in the province having having been attracted by the Auckland Provincial Amateur Daffodil Championship, which is being competed for in Cambridge this year. Well-known growers who are exhibiting include. Messrs W. Danby (Thames), G. A. Shaw (Huntly), H. M. Hammond (Hamilton), J. H. Braithwaite (Auckland), H. C. Rainey (Te Awamutu), A. J. Shepherd (Te Awamutu), Frank Penn (Auckland), Edgar and Edwin James (Cambridge), A. Hopkirk (Cambridge), G. Yarrell (Waihou), G. H. Ooulham (Hamilton), E. Clark (Putaruru), Mrs Robinson (Putaruru) and Miss Richards (Cambridge). The decorative and cut flower sections aro also well supported, and lovers of flowers will bo given a.wonderful display when the show opens. The hall was a scene of great activity this morning, when the various entrants were staging their blooms in readiness for judging. The Judges The judges for this year’s fixture are as follows: Narcissi section, Mr N. Thomas (Auckland); decorative section, Mrs West and Mrs Downes (Te Awamutu); cut flowers, Mrs Dawson (Te Awamutu), The Officials The arrangements for the show are much upon the lines of previous fixtures and the officials responsible arc: Patron, Mr A. Hopkirk; president, the Rev. A. C. McLean; vice-presidents, Mrs Short, Mrs O. Gane, Mrs R. Haysmith and Mrs D. Murray; manager, Mr A. N. Macky. Stewards: Daffodils, Mesdames Haysmith and R. Simpson, Misses G. Perkins and F. Hooker, Messrs A. M. Fisher and C. Thompson; decorative, Mesdames Short and 0. Gane; cut flowers, Miss Watt. Secretary, Mr R. Simpson; assistant secretary, Mr R; Haysmith. The Stalls In connection with the exhibition, the Ladies’ Guild and Girls’ Club of Trinity Presbyterian Church have a number of stalls, offering a variety of seasonable goods and plain and fancy home-made articles. A number of interesting competitions will be held each evening.
