TRADE WITH BRITAIN

AN IMPORTANT FEDERATION. ORGANISATION IN SOUTH. jSomo few weeks ago a meeting was called of those interested in the question of forming a branch of the Now Zealand Producers’ and United Kingdom Manufacturers’ Reciprocal Trade Federation. At the Dunedin meeting it was resolved to send two delegates to attend a conference in Wellington, viz., Messrs James Begg ar.d 11. C. Campbell, who were asked to report back to the meeting on the question of establishing a branch there At the Wellington meeting Mr W. Goodfcllow briefly outlined the objects of the federation and drew particular attention to the fact that the idea of the promoters was that the federation should be an initial organisation for the purpose of carrying out the spirit of the Ottawa agreement, pertaining to fiee trade and perpetuating a complete understanding between Britain and New Zealand. When Messrs Begg and Campbell returned they reported briefly on the meeting held in Wellington, and it was unanimously resolved that a branch of the federation should be formed in Dunedin. Steps are now being taken by the federation to engage the services of

an experienced man as organising secretary with a view to endeavouring to educate the public of New Zealand in the vital necessity for reciprocal trade relations with Great Britain, so that .when the present agreements expire between the Dairy Board, the Moat Board, etc., and the British Government the Dominion may be in a position to ask for the fullest consideration in regard to its produce, the placing of which on the Home market is a matter of paramount importance.
