NOT GUILTY
HAMILTON MURDER CHARGE. ACT ONE OF INSANITY. After a retirement of two hours a verdict of not guilty on the grounds that accused was insane at the time he killed his wife was returned by the jury on Thursday in the case of Arthur Walter Smith, aged 50, painter, who was charged in the Supreme Court with murdering his wife, Lois Alexandra Smith, aged 29, at his home, 23, Liverpool Street, Hamilton, on October 3. Mr Justice Herdman presided. His Honor ordered Smith to be detained in strict custody in Mount Eden prison until the pleasure of the Minister of Justice was known.
