PERSONAL. Mi«B D. Nccly went to Auckland on Friday to spend part of her holidays. Hiss Nancy Purdom, of Parnoll, Auckland, is staying with Mrs T. P. Richards, Thornton Road. Airs L. S. Cupples, of Karapiro, who has been staying with her mother, Mrs E. Eoberson, of Eotorua, returned home this week. Mrs M.ervyn Wells, who has been the guest of Mrs Owen Campbell, Fairview Road, Mount Eden, has returned borne. Priestley gave a most enjoyable bridge party for the benefit of the Golf Club. The rooms were artistically arranged with Iceland poppies and daffodils. The first prize was won by Miss Butler, and the second by Miss Iva Garland. The Karapiro social committee held a very successful plain and fancy dress dance at Karapiro on Tuesday eveninglast. The hall was specially'decorated with ferns, palms and streamers for the occasion, which, together with the picturesque fancy costumes of the ladies, presented a gay appearance. The music was supplied by Clayton's orchestra and Mr F. Coulter efficiently carried out the duties of M.C. Mrs C. Fletcher won the first prize for the most original fancy dress, as a Market Garden. It was disappointing' that no men appeared in fancy dress. Euby Newcombc, as Night, won the girl's prize and Ken Coulter, as Cricketer, the boy's. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr Angus Gault and Miss V. McLeod.

The following committee were responsible for organising this effort, and the thanks of the district arc due to them for a very successful function, as well as for the jolly fortnightly gatherings held by them during the Avinter months:—Mrs E-. A SOCIAL SUCCESS. A LARGE ATTENDANCE. Held in the Town Hall on Thursday evening last the Cambridge Kugby Union's annual ball was again a great success, there being the large attendance of about 100 couples. The arrangements made for the ball were very satisfactory, and the function went with a swing that helped those present to enjoy the evening to the full and in consequence the event was a social success. The dance floor was in excellent order and Clayton's orchestra of six instruments provided a splendid dance programme. Again this year the union was favoured in being supported by a very representative ladies' committee, with Mrs W. H. Hall as convener. The ladies had gone to much labour and trouble to prepare a most sumptuous supper that was done full justice to. There was not a single hitch throughout the ball, and its success reflected great credit on all concerned. The supper tables, and, in fact, the entire supper-room presented a delightful appearance. Above the supper tables was a canopy of blue and white streamers (union's colours), while the tallies were artictically decorated with spring flowers, the handiwork of Mrs M. Wells, assisted by Mrs Connor. The stage in the main hall was arranged as a sitting-out room, with the union's several cups and banners re-

posing on a table in the centre of the stage.

During the course of the evening the president, Mr H. Cubis, extended the union's thanks to the public for the support accorded Rugby football in the district during the past season. Mr Cubis gave thanks to all who, in anyway, had assisted the union during the especially mentioning the Leamington Domain Board and the Borough Council, also the hotel proprietors for the use of dressing accommodation. Special thanks were extended by Mr Cubis to the ladies' committee for their valuable assistance in providing the supper, not only this season, but in many years gone by.
