UNEMPLOYMENT
160 ON DISTRICT LIST. WORK FOUND FOR ALL. Yesterday the secretary of the local Unemployment Relief Committee informed us that the number of unemployed registered was 160 and there were very few who had not been provided with work, if only two days a week. The secretary stated that a number of district farmers are taking advantage of No. 4 A scheme and that it was working -well in the district. The farmers were getting a suitable class of young men, with previous experience. The gangs are still at work on the gasworks flat and at the borough depot section, where good work has boon done in clearing noxious weeds. A few men are on road work with the council's ordinary staff. Tho secretary further stated that three more men had been sent to the Fericourt Drainage Board secretary for drainage work, and four had also been sent to work for the Upper Mangapiko Drainage Board.
