CAMBRIDGE DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL. COMMITTEE MEETING. ’ The committee of the Cambridge District High School met on Tuesday evening. Those present were: Messrs A. N. Mack (chairman), H. L. Possenniskie, C. Bugo, W. R. Garrard, Rev. •Jas. Hay. The secretary (Mr S. N. Zinian) and headmaster (Mr P. J. Sefton) were also present. Messrs J. H. Fwguson and V. G. Boulton were granted leave of absence. M/otion of Sympathy. Prior to eOiiimencing 'the general business the chairman referred to the death of Mr John Ferguson, who had done so much to foster the interests of Cambridge, and who was at one time a member of the School Committee. A motion of sympathy was carried in silence. Headmaster’s Report. The headmaster (Mr P. J. Sefton) showed that the-rolls at the school now stood at: Primary 413, secondary 122 and that the average attendance for February was 381 and 117 respectively. The High School figures constitute a record for the school. The only visiting official during the month was Mr M. H. Dixon, agricultural instructor. , 'School Sports. The headmaster introduced the question of school sports and a letter was read from the South Auckland Public Schools’ Amateur Athletic Association in connection with the annual sports meeting to be held in Hamilton on Friday, March 13th. The Auckland Education Board had resolved that schools be allowed to assemble for the meeting, but that the day be not observed as a special holiday. The offer of the headmaster to take to the sports, under his personal supervision, some 40 children representing the best athletes of the school was endorsed. The remainder of the school will continue work as usual. In connection with tlio school’s own sports - day, owing to Victoria Square being engaged every Saturday till after lEaster, it was decided that the sports be held on! March 20th. It was felt after Easter j was too late to hold the sports. j General. The Auckland Education Board approved of the appointment of Miss E. L. Parker as relieving Commercial instructress at the secondary department.
