PERSONAL.
The death took place in. Christchurch recently of Mr John Wieslcy Buddie, the last surviving son of the Rev. Thomas Buddie, the pioneer Wesleyan missionary. Among the passengers by the Otranto, which arrived at Fremantle on Tuesday from. London, was Miss Gladys Watkins, of Wellington, who has been abroad studying carillon playing. Prior to commencing the general business at the Waikato County Council on Tuesday, the chairman, Mr T. Hinton, welcomed Mr T. H. Henderson back to the council, after his tour of the Old Country, which had extended over several months. At the monthly meeting of the Waikato County Council on Tuesday, Miss A. Richards tendered her resignation from the position as assistant clerk to the council. The chairman (Mr'T. Hinton) referring to the long service accorded the council by Miss Richards, moved that the resignation be received with regret, and that it take effect from the 31st of March next. It was decided that during the first three months of the new year Miss Richards be granted leave of absence. A new departure was taken by the Auckland Presbytery on Tuesday evening in nominating for the first time a layman for appointment as its next moderator. The layman so nominated was Mr S. J. Harbutt, at present on his way back from a visit to England, and his appointment will -take effect, next February. Several tributes were paid to Mr Harbutt’s outstanding -services to the Presbytery and to the Church generally. ... r •
