' PERSONAL. Miss Hazel White, who Iras ,boon a* tending the Teachers' Training College, has returned home for the midsummer holidays. Miss Kathleen Armstrong relumed homo-to-day from the Training College, Avhich she is leaving. She was accompanied by a college mate, Miss Docjds, ■of Paparoa. Mr and Mrs B. Brewer and their two daughters have arrived in Cambridge from To Kuiti, and have taken-up their residence in Miss C. Willis' house in Hamilton Eoad. Miss Valerie Rowland, who has been spending a fortnight with the Misses Moorhouse, at "The Lightwoods," left en Friday morning. .Sister Penn, who has. been actingMatron of the Te Kuiti Hoapital for the past month, has returned to the Wai'kafco Hospital. Miss Penn has just spend a day or so with friends at Cambridge. Mrs W. R. Wilson, Chief Commissioner for New Zealand of the Girl Guide Association, who returned to Auckland on Wednesday after an extended visit to Great Britain, was met •on her arrival by several members of the Auckland executive committee and •about 20. Guider's, who warmly welcomed her back to New Zealand. Mrs Wilson was also presented with a very •charming bouquet from the Guidon. ' \ * —- '£ . 'GARDEN PARTY. jjjhc Matangi P.W.M.XJ. organised a .very successful and enjoyable garden party, held at Mr and Mrs T. Thompson's residence on Saturday afternoon last. Favoured by delightful weather, there was a large and representative attendance. •The ladies had made elaborate pic-pa-rations for the gathering, and competitions, etc., helped to make the afternoon enjoyable. All the stalls did good business, and the ladies in charge •of the refreshments had a very busy lime. . , ' Following are the winners of the competitions:—Stepping the chain, Mrs Lusby; small treasure hunt, Miss D. It was a gracious thought that prompted a committee of Auckland ladies to go on board the American tourist liner Maldlo and decorate the spacious dining saloon with beautiful powers from'their own gardens. Such n friendly gesture as this should go far towards creating goodwill and underpin ding between the peoples bordering ttfie'Taciae. \BRIDGE AFTERNOON. On Friday afternoon Mrs Nelson, of Tvoto-o-rangi, entertained a number of friends at bridge when a most enjoyable time was spent. The drawingroom was arranged with Iceland poppics and sweet peas. Mrs Nelson was wearing a black and yellow crepe dc chine frock.

The decorations were leeland poppies, peonies, and double marigolds. Mrs Bourkc was wearing a black crepe dc chine frock, with ivory georgette collar. Her niece, Miss M.. On Thursday evening Mr and Mrs T. F. Richards gave a coming-of-age party in honour of their daughter Molly, who is on annual holiday from the Waikato Hospital. The floral decorations were pale pink rhododendrons and stock. The breakfast room, where supper was served, was nicely decorated with festoons and streamers. The verandah, used for dancing after supper, was screened in and artistically decorated with evergreens and Chinese lanterns. Games, competitions and dancing were indulged in during^'the evening to the enjoyment of all. The evening was brought to a close by the singing of "Auld Lang Syne." Mrs Richards received her guests, in a frock of cinnamon georgette with gold lace overdress and bridge coat. Molly's frock was rose pink and lavender silk, trimmed with silver lace. IN HONOUR OF NONAGENARIAN. On Saturday afternoon a most enjoyable and happy gathering was given by Mr and Mrs A. Gane at their residence in honour of Mr G. E. Clark. The day was fine and a very large gathering of relatives and a few friends wore present to do honour to the occasion. •Tennis, deck tennis and clock golf were played. Those present were: Mr G. E.
