GOOD FRIDAY PICTURES.
(To the Editor). Sir, —At the recent meeting of tho. Borough Council the question of the y showing of pictures on Good Friday .>- was up for consideration, and I was > pleased to see that the council was broadminded enough to grant the permission asked for by the Theatre Management within reason —that is the programme to be approved by the . council 's representatives. I noticed that one of the councillors was strongly opposed to the granting of permission on principle. I agree that the principle referred to must be respected, but within reason. To my mind there is no more harm in going to see a good film subject, on Good Friday, than in spending the afternoon or evening after church in some other mild form of recreation. For instance, I cannot see any more harm in going to see Thomas Hardy's well known book, "Under the Greenwood Tree/' in film form, than in going home after church and read-' ing one of many other similar standard works. Thanking you for space, Mr Editor. —I am, etc., >-
