POLO AT CAMBRIDGE.

It is pleasing to note that Cambridge has been chosen as the venue of all future provincial polo tournaments, by the proposal to make a permanent central playing field at the Trotting Club's course, subject to the approval of the Provincial Association and the New Zealand Association. Apart from the additional encouragement that it will give to polo in this district, it is not difficult to appreciate that the holding of the provincial tournaments annually and the Dominion Savile Cup tourney, once every three years, will be a valuable asset to the town. The annual provincial tournament will mean quite a lot to Cambridge, for each year it will see over 50 visiting players come to the district for a week's polo, and when it is remembered that each player brings three or four ponies with him, not to mention his friends, the value of such a tournament each year will be recognised. With the central ground at the racecourse ready for use, the Dominion Savile Cup tourney will be an even greater asset to Cambridge, for it will mean the aggregation of over 300 p,onics, in addition to the players, in Cambridge once every three years. More than this, the Dominion Cup tourney will bring visitors from all parts of the Dominion, and in addition to the money they will leave behind them to be circulated, 'it can be appreciated that if the town is in complete sympathy with the tournament, a fine advertisement will be obtained. The Cambridge racecourse area of IS acres has been chosen, and if approved ,we are certain a polo ground can be prepared that will be second to none in the Dominion. The course is well situated in South Auckland, and the land is suitable and well drained, a factor that was against the selection of the area at the Cludelands) showgrounds. In addition to the preparation of the ground, pony accommodation will be a consideration when the Dominion tourney comes round. However, the tourney is of such importance that we feel sure those interested will see to it that all requirements are provided. We congratulate district polo enthusiasts on the fact that, in the near future there is every probabiliy of their district becoming a polo centre recognised throughout the Dominion.
