• The whol6sale and retail prices of butter have been reduced by one pcniiy per pound. The Moth aeroplane, L K A A B, flew over the town this morning about seven and appeared to be heading for Hamilton from. Rotorua.

A Press wire received this morning states that torrential rains continued all last night in Wellington, and the country side is in a soaked condition.

The standing committee of the Waikato Diocese has granted authority to the Hamilton East parishioners to erect a church hall on a site at the corner of Cambridge Road and Nixon Street.

The nerv concrete SAvimming bath attached to the Wardville school, near Matamata, Avas opened on Saturday last by Mr C. E. Macmillan, M»P., in the presence of nearly .300 people. The SAvimming pool is 75ft long of 15ft Avide, and the total cost, Avith the exception of the Education Board’s subsidy, has been raised by parents and settlers.

On Saturday last Captain J. S. Hcavitt, of Auckland, made a record nonstop flight from Dunedin to Auckland in his Gipsy Moth aeroplane. He left Dunedin at 6.40 a.m. and reached the Mangero aerodrome at 4.40 p.m., after a flight of 830 miles in 10 hours. The machine was fitted Avith * extra petrol tanks to provide for the long flight, Avhich took about 50 gallons of petrol.

Owing to heavy demands in recent months Mr H. Alan Bell, the district Charitable Aid representative, would be grateful for donations of discarded clothing for the needy; also boots and shoes, in fact anything Avearablc. In the past Cambridge has never failed to respond to the representative’s appeal, and we feel certain that after reading this appeal residents will soon make a good response. Summer time came to an end on Saturday night last, much to the disappointment of many people, who would gladly have had the system continue for another month or two. The change Avas brought about Avithout any inconvenience worth speaking about. One young lady, at least, forgot to alter her clock, and arrived at church on Sunday morning at 10.30 (standard time). She was very surprised at finding the church empty, and it was only after waiting for some considerable time that it dawned upon her that she had forgotten the end of summer time.

As advertised in to-day’s issue the annual meeting of the Cambridge Rugby Union Avill be held in the Oddfellows’ Hall on Thursday evening, March 27, at 8 p.m. It will be noted that the date has been altered from Wednesday (26th inst.) owing to the hall not being available on that date.

The schedules from the Cambridge Horticultural Society’s third annual slum- (under the auspices of the local Methodist Church) have moav been issued, and copies can be secured on application, to the secretary (Mr C. F. Lange) or members of the committee. This show will comprise chrysanthemums, dajilias, other cut floAvcrs, decorations, fruit, and vegetables. A very liberal prize list has been arranged for the shoAA r , which promises to be a successful fixture. The slioav aa-HI be held on April'llth.

Instruction of a most desirable character is hoav being given at the local High School in the shape of fire drill. Under the instruction of Mr 11. Vause the children arc taught how to leave the school as quickly as possible in the event of an alarm of fire, and with a minimum of confusion. As soon as the alarm bell is sounded the scholars. girls first, leave the school in orderly fashion in twos, and for.m up in lines, at a safe distance from the building. The instructor, the headmaster and staff will have every parent’s appreciation in introducing fire d.ill into the day’s lessons.

A foolish practical joke, evidently perpetrated on the spur of the moment, Avithout thought, occurred on Thursday evening last when a local youth found his bicycle missing. Thinking that some of his friends had hidden it he made enquiries but all proA r ed fruitless as did his search. On Friday morning, however, the custodian of the SAvimming bath found a bicycle submerged in the deep end of the bath. After inquiries it Avas restored to its rightful OAvncr, haA r ing suffered little from its bath. Had the machine not been observed by the caretaker, someone might easily haA 7 e been badly injured when diving at the deep end of the bath, had they come in contact with the machine.
