PERSONAL.

Mr !El. J. Howard, M.P., of Christchurch, was a visitor to Cambridge on Saturday last.

Mr and Mrs J. D. Campbell, erstwhile residents of Cambridge, arc on a visit to the district.

Mr and Mrs V. Rickit, of the National Hotel, arc at' present away up North Auckland, visiting Mrs Rickit’s brother, who is seriously ill.

Mr T. H. Welch and his son returned to Cambridge on Saturday, after spending a fortnight’s motoring tour of the North.

Mr Dix Marshall left for Wellington last evening to meet his father, Mr Spencer Marshall, who is returning from England by the Bangitiki to-day.

Mr Percy Scfton, who is to succeed Mr P. G. Lewis as headmaster of the Cambridge District High School, at the end of the month, paid a short visit to Cambridge on Saturday last.

Mr and Mrs T. Cummack and family, for many years well-known residents of Cambridge, and lately of Auckland, have returned to Cambridge to take up residence here.

The Horn J. G. Cobbe, Minister of Defence, returned to New Zealand from Western Samoa by the Tofua, which reached Auckland early this morning. Mr Cobbe was accompanied by Mrs Cobbe and Mr F. G. Matthews, private sec.etary.

Mr C. H. Priestley (Mayor), together with Mrs and Miss Priestley, have re-, turned to Cambridge, after spending a considerable period at Oneroa beach. Mr Priestley has been up and down on many occasions, as his Mayoral duties demanded.

The Governor - General designate, Lord Bledisloe, and Lady Bledisloe, are due to arrive in Wellington this evening. They will disembark to-morrow morning, and -will be formally welcomed by the Mayor. The ceremony of swearing-in the Governor-General will be performed at Parliament grounds at 3 p.m. to-morrow.

Among the passengers who arrived at Auckland on the Corinthie on Sunday were Major A. H. Bathurst, private and military secretary to the Gov-ernor-General, Lord Bledisloe, and Sir John Hanham, one of His Excellency’s aides-de-camp. Major Bathurst was accompanied by his wifti. Major Bathurst is Lord Bledisloe’s younger brother, and Sir John Hanham is the new Governor-General’s nephew.

Baron G. von Mehring, of Berlin, who moved in the circle of nobility attached to the German Emperor’s Court before the institution of the Republic, arrived at Auckland by the-Corinthie on Sunday, in the course* of a world tour. After a short stay in New Zealand he will proceed to Australia.

A London cable message states that the Countess of Coventry and her husband were buried yesterday, side by side, on an old'oak grown estate. The ceremony was of the simplest nature, and attended only by the tenantry, and friends who had been present at many other services and anniversaries.

Sir Charles Fergusson and Lady Alice Fergusson have arrived Home at London. They were welcomed by the .Secretary of State for the Dominions (Lord Fassfield), the High Commissioner (Mr T. Wilford) and representatives of the King and Prime Minister. The Prime Minister of Northern Ireland (Viscount Craigavon) ana Lady. Craigavon also arrived in England by the same boat, the Rangitata.
