Our hearty congratulations to the executive of the Waikato Central Agricultural Association on the magnificent success of its twenty-seventh annual show, held at Cambridge on Wednesday and Thursday! The association has had its ups and downs, the vital factor of weather conditions at times playing an important part. A few years ago ill-luck dogged the association to such an extent that fears were expressed as to the future. However, during the past few years, mainly through efficient management and the enthusiasm and energy of the executive, the shows have improved considerably. This year’s fixture is certainly the best held for many years. Not only have the entries been a record, but the attendance was the best for a very lengthy period, while the quality of the exhibits, as a whole) showed a distinct improvement, and was most favourably commented upon by judges and visitors. These annual shows are a grand advertisement for this favoured part of the Waikato, and are well worth while for that reason alone, though, of course, their primary function is to educate the farmers and assist them in breeding better stock, and thus get better results from their holdings. The show just held was one that would do credit to any part of the Dominion. Of course, there were a few ways in which it could have been bettered, and the executive will doubtless take steps to profit by experience in these matters. Encouraged by the wonderful success of this week’s show, we may safely look forward to even gloated efforts in the future.
