MOTORING NOTES

LONDON WILL-GET TAXIS WITHOUT DOORS. A fleet of two-seater taxi-cabs of unusual design will appear in London shortly. Invented by William Gowan, of Capetown, the cabs, which have passed all tests, will have two curved sliding panels forming the front of the passenger compartment, instead of doors. These can be operated by the driver without leaving his seat or by the passengers. There is accommodation for two when the movable arm is raised. Heavy luggage can be taken on the front platform. The inventor says the absence of doors will prevent accidents, while the body is less costly and weighs 2501bs less than the usual ton-and-a-half cab. COST OF BENZINE ANALYSED. Retail benzine prices in countries other than America, are lowest in Japan and Rumania and highest in Bolivia and the African Gold Coast. The low price of 22 cents gallon in Rumania, as compared with 31 to 38 cents in France and 38 to 43 cents in all the United Kingdom, was attributed to the fact that Rumania produces and refines its own petroleum. The lowest retail prices for benzine is in Japan, where the cost ranges from 22 cents to 29 cents a gallon. Bcnz%e in Bolivia costs 64 cents a gallon, and on the Gold Coast, from 63 to 64 cents.
