J THE CAMBRIDGE BRANCH jS MONTHLY MEETING. i ' The monthly' meeting of the Farmers' Union was held at the club-rooms yesterday afternoon when Mr H. Watkins (president) .presided over a small attendance. • Empire Farmers' Visit. Arising out of the minutes, Mr Feisst said despite the Branch's suggestion that the touring party of Empire Farmers should come through Cambridge from Hamilton and then go on to Morrinsville, although approved by the Sub-Provincial Branch and the Railway Department representative, the arrangements had been upset at the last minute by the Morrinsville representatives.. Mr Feisst said their apology was due the car-drivers who went to Hamilton and were left without passengers when they were all taken up by Morrinsville people. , Keen appreciation was e/presscd of the* support that was generally given in the Cambridge welcome to the visit: ■sng farmers. Hearty thanks were accorded the deputy- Mayor, Mr W. G. ■Care and Mrs Care, also the ladies' committee and girl rangers for the organising of refreshments; to Mr Feisst for arranging transport at Cambridge end; to the car drivers and to Mr Sinclair, manager of the Town Hall •theatre. Appreciation was also expressed of the good work done by Mr Watkins. Thanks. The Waikato Central Agricultural Association wrote thanking the branch for its donation of £2 2/- towards the -prize fund of the forthcoming fixture. Garden Party. The secretary, Women's Division, -wrote advising that the bra*eh intended holding a garden .party on March 22nd, for the purpose of raising funds partly in aid of the branch and of the Dominion Association. The union's support was invited; also that representatives attend a meeting to organise •the function. ' Messrs Feisst and Hewitt spoke in of the women's division move--Wr>t and the Dominion Community ■Chest It was decided that the branch assist in any possible way and that the president and Mr Hewitt represent the lb ranch at the meeting. Cull Cattle. The Managing Director (Mr 3. Lye) Waikato and Thames Valley Co-op. Calf ByJProduct Coy., Ltd., forwarded a circular letter re the prevention of resale of cull dairy cows and bulls. It was mentioned that the activity displayed by the company in connection with the subject had been unanimously supported by all the dairy companies in r'.ie Bay of Plenty and North Auckland and it had been freely expressed 'that the matter should be brought officially before the union. The value of the movement in its association •with the improvement of dairy herds, by the removal of "robber" cows was stressed. The company had agreed to organise the business and the co-opera-tion of the union was sought. It was appreciated that the movement was upon right lines, but it was thought their were difficulties that would have to be overcome.

Finally it was resolved on the motion .of Messrs Feisst and Hewitt that if jthe opinion of the Branch's representatives is favourable, after hearing an address to the Sub-Provincial Branch, Mjr Lye be.then invited to deliver an address at Cambridge. Provincial Conference. - Messrs H. P. Hewitt and S. N. Ziman were appointed delegates to the forthcoming Provincial Conference at Auckland, with power to appoint substitutes. The two delegates and Messrs Watkins> and Feisst were appointed a remits committee. Unemployment Bepott. Mr Feisst drew attention to the special report released a few days ago by the commission of investigation. While the report had its good features the committee had made tho mistake of omr'ing constructive avenues for getting cut from under the problem permanently. *~ In one place the committee say they do not favour insurance schemc-3 and criticise relief works yet they turn round and advocate what is nothing more than an insurance proposal, contributed to by all adults. Mr that the only solution was to take tho load off production. The report failed to point out that tmparcd with the economic situation e country was over-spending.
