LAST SATURDAY'S MATCH.

Although Cambridge A were defeated in their challenge for the Cameron Cup against Matangi A on'Saturday last at Matangi, the match was a very evenly contested one. Mtangi won by 4 goals to 2, but there was very little in it in the matter of advantage in play. The teams were:—Matangi: W. Ranstead, R. Townsend, W. Phillips and J. Shaw. Cambridge; R. G. Blennerhassett, W. Fisher, A. Fisher and J. Butler. Although all played sterlinggames perhaps .the outstanding players on the clay were Shaw for the holders and A. Fisher for Cambridge.

! Play was fast, rather a. little too hot in the opening ehukka. Shaw was soon prominent for Matangi with a scries of good hits. A. Fisher took it and hitting well down the field, Shaw saved what, looked like a sure goal for 'ambridge. Soon after the second ehukka commenced Matangi got a free hit, but failed to score. Cambridge, with a fine run down the field, scored the first goal. Play then went to the middle of the field, from where Ranstead made a good run but failed to get between the posts. The third ehukka was very fast and wherever the ball was so was Shaw., who made several splendid runs, his hitting being sure. Twice he placed the ball behind the goal line and on the third occasion he scored. Play then followed to Matangi's goal, where Townsend placed behind. Cambridge then got the ball and Blennerhassett and A. Fisher made a good run down the field where the ball went out. The fourth ehukka saw ' Cambridge the aggressors, A. Fisher being prominent. W. Fisher then got in a splendid run, but was stopped by Shaw. Cambridge were awarded a free hit on a cross, but failed to score. Shaw then got a run on and placed the ball, being followed by Ranstead, who scored for Matangi. Soon after the fifth ehukka commenced Matangi got the ball behind and shortly after repeated it. Then Townsend, making a fine run, placed the ball between the posts*. The sixth ehukka opened with some loose play until Blennerhassett got the ball. Soon filter A. Fisher also, did good work. Getting the ball again he scored for Cambridge. The seventh ehukka was very fast, play being first at one end of the field and then the other. Shaw and Philips got in some good runs, the latter being stopped by W. Fisher. Townsend then got the ball and centering it, scored for Matangi. Play then followed regain towards Matangi's goal line, when the ball went behind and Mius ended a fine game, the score- being: Matangi 4, Cambridge 2.
