WIRTHS' CIRCUS

A GREAT SHOW.

CLEVER AND THRILLING ACTS.

Wirths' Circus came to town yesterday morning by special train, and the big show was held in Victoria Square last evening. To the children, of course, the big tent, the wild animals and the sawdust and spangles are an irresistible charm, and that the circus is still alluring to the adults of this district was evidenced by last night's huge audience, there being close up to 2000 present.

For a great many years Wirth Bros, have been visiting the Dominion, and have gained an enviable .reputation among the bigger showmen. Last night the "greatest show on earth" was well up to the standard of previous performances. With such a splendid all-round programme it is not easy to individualise. However, an item that received the special approbation of the big audience was that presented by the Lias Troupe. Six very clever acrobats turned somersaults of all descriptions and the dexterity of the performers », with their feet, in a star turn, the crowd. Last on the programme the flying La Mars were by no means last in the merit of their aerial act, trapeze work being seen of a thrilling character. The Santey Duo, two German artists, gave an astonishing exhibition of balancing in loops in mid-air, and later they again appeared when Claudia Alba astounded everyone with her . weight-lifting exhibition. The three Arconas also gave a fine exhibition of balancing, while Miss Betty Arcona thrilled the audience with her acrobatics high up in the big tent. AH the remaining acts of a lengthy programme were of a meritorious standard. The menagerie was a special at- . traction, especially for the children in the afternoon when being fed. Always characteristic of Wirth Bros.' shows, the management was excellent from'the time of entering to leaving the town in the early hours of this morning, and this feature reflected great credit" on Mr Phil Wirth, junr., who is managing the Dominion tour owing to the illhealth of iris;" well-known, father.
