SOME FIGURES.

Interesting statistics showing the increase of patients treated at the Waikato Hospital and the increase in the average number of occupied beds in relation to the increase in the cost of maintenance during the-past six years are supplied in a report prepared by Mr. E. G. Johnson, secretary to the Board. The latest figures are given first, those for 1924 appearing in parentheses. ' Patients treated in all hospitals under the Board, 440 (2413), Jin increase of 2027, or 84 per cent. In Waikato Hospital, 3746 (2362), ail increase of: 1384, or 59 per cent. The average occupied beds per diem in all hospitals under the Board is 268 (185), an .increase of 83 per diem, or 45 per cent. In Waikato Hospital, 244. (183),, an increase of 61 per diem, or 34 percent. The cost of maintenance per annum for all hospitals is £45,132 (£31,872), an increase of £13,260 per annum, or 41 per cent. - In Waikato Hospital, £39>421 (31,213), an increase of £B2OB per annum, or 26 per cent. The cost per occupied bed per annum is £l6B (£172), a decrease of £l4 per annum. In Waikato Hospital, £l6l (£171), a decrease of £lO per annum. In 1924 the population of the Waikato Sospital district was 87,000. It is now 99,000, an increase .of 12,000 in six years. To-day the total capital value of the district is £39,353,190, an increase of £3,337,027 in six years. The" total levies are £34,776, an increase of £10,840 since 1924, or 45 per cent. It is interesting to note that the increase in'the average number of occupied beds and the increase of levies on local authorities in the period under review is equal, 45 per cent. * At the end of the financial year. 1923-24 the balance of the capital account stood at £126,458; at the end of March last, £179,132; •an increase of £52,674. This shows an increase of 41 per cent.
