Rev. Lionelv Harvie, Vicar of Cambridge, will leave early next week on a. well-earned month’s holiday.

Dr J. S. Kennard, a United States scholar, with an international reputation, is visiting New Zealand in search of material for a book. He is at present in Wellington.

The many friends of Mr Wildermotfi, of Cambridge,\vill be sorry to hear that he was yesterday admitted to the Waikato Hospital, where he was im mediately operated upon. On enquiry this morning we ascertained that the operation had been successful, and that Mr Wildernioth’s condition was quite satisfactory..

Rev. T. W. Drake, accompanied t>y Mrs Drake and family, of Port Ahuriri, Napier, who motored through to Auckland, stayed a few days at Cambridge en route. The Rev. Jjiji Nakada, who was the principal speaker at the missionary meeting held in connection with the United Christian Convention at Cambridge last night, is a highly interesting Christian piinister from Japan. The R-ev. Jujiiis on a visit to New Zealand. During his visit he will address meetings of Maoris in various parts, he having been brought closely into contact with the Maori-race through the recent visit of Ratana to Japan.

. Much regret was' felt when the death was announced of Miss Margaret Carroll, the younger sister of the late Sir James Carroll, says the Poverty Bay Herald. The deceased lady was advanced in years, but only within the past few weeks had ill-health come upon her. The late Miss Carroll was born at Wairoa, and was the daughter of the late Mr Joseph CarrolL She had many friends among Maori and, Pakeha, and in a quiet way had done much for the of those to whose advancement her late brother, sir- James Carroll, dedicated his life. ■

The ' diamond wedding of Mr and Mrs William Thompson, of Birkenhead, Auckland, was celebrated, yesterday.; Mr Thompson was Si years old, on December 9 and his ( wife is six months 7 younger. Mr. Thompson, who is the head of over 80 descendants, was born at Wakefield, Yorkshire, and came of a large family, being the 17th member in a family of 21. He is the only one of this number now living. His first wife died when their son was an infant. Later he married Miss Maria- Stanley and came to New Zealand with his wife and the three, children in the ship Countess, of Kintore. They settled at Birkenhead, where, they have continuously resided for 56 years.
