WAIKATO HUNT

LABOUR DAY MEETING. ' EXCELLENT ACCEPTANCES. The acceptances for the Waikato Hunt's Labour Day annual fixture, which appear below, may be regarded as excellent on the whole, and assure a good day's sport on Monday next. In the eight carded events it will be seen that the total number of horses now remaining is 126 —compared with 115 last year—or an average of' between 15 and 16 for each event. The Bardowie Handicap tops the list with 24 acceptances, while 16 are still left in the Hunt Cup Steeples, the same number as last year. A bright feature of this year's acceptances is the number in one of the principal races-r-the Members' Memorial. This year 17 owners have accepted as against eight last year. The sprint event, the Instow Welter, has 16 acceptors as against 14 at the last meeting.

, The principal event on the programme, the Waikato Hunt .Steeples with a stake of £6OO and a gold cup valued at £IOO, should result in an excellent contest, especially if the sixteen candidates go to the post. It will be seen thaf the quality of the acceptances, not only in this event, but throughout the programme, is better than at any previous meeting, a feature that is gratifying to all concerned.

The three miles steeples course arranged is a sufficiently stiff one to provide a good hunting test. ■: It would-seem that the arrangement eventually arrived at by the Waikato Racing Club and the Hunt, whereby the former race on Friday ' and Saturday and the latter on Monday, is a most satisfactory one to all concerned.... The two meeting following close upon one another have provided added inducement to owners in distant parts, while it is reasonable to anticipate that this will also apply to the public, so that both clubs can look forward to excellent fixtures. .
