PAUL'S CLUB. .St. Paul's Methodist Tennis Club ■opened its season on Saturday afternoon last, when, despite the damp, threatening weather in , the morning, there was a good attendance of members and a few friends. Rev. J. W. Parker (president), in a 'brief, appropriate speech, wished, the club all success for the season just commencing, and then declared the season duly opened. Mrs Parker served the first balk : : V A handicap Yankee tournament (combined.doubles) was played, and: the .contest afforded much interest to participants and spectators. There was .not sufficient time to play the tournament right through, so the four leading couple's played pff ,for honours, and af-ter-a keen contest Miss Easter and H. Carter defeated Miss Parker and J. Keelcy inthe final. Mr G. Gutry kindly rendered valuable assistance in the arrangements for the tournament. fcj The ladies provided afternoon tea. ■he club has a good membership, and TRui/cessful season is assured. ! 1 V MAUNGATAUTARI CLUB. . At the Maungatautari Tennis Club annual meeting there was a fair attendance of members, presided over by Mr E. Kirkby, and from the enthusiasm ishown by all those present there should be a good soason's tennis. 'When the balance sheet was presented, it was pleasing to find that the club was in a very satisfactory financial position. f

It was decided, that the subscriptions should remain as last year, 5/ for ladien and 10/ for men. I Mr Nobbs,'whd has held the position ■.-. of Secretary foL the past three years, asked to be relieved of the office, as he ' found he could not find the time which th© secretaryship entailed. His resignation was accepted with regret, and a vote of thanks passed to Mr Nobbs for his work on behalf of the club. Mr R. Kirkby was elected as club's patron. The secretary elected for the season was Mrs F- Day, with ' Mis 3; J. Strawbridge , assistant secretary; president, Mrs R. Kirkby; chair- ■ -man, Mr F. Griffin; ladies' committee, Mesdames J. Budge, E. J. Peake and, Miss M. Hicks; men's committee, Messrs R. Strawbridge, R. Bright, W. Cooper, Geo. Vosper. • It was decided that the opening day "be on Saturday, October 22, and that a working bee be held on Wednesday (tomorrow) to have the courts in good order. The cup given by Mrs E. J. Peake for the two clubs, Maungatautari and Horahora, to play for, was presented 'to Horahora last year, they having won two of the three matches played. Hora- ' hora have kindly presented the cup back again, to be played for. HAUTAPU CLUB. The Hautapu Tennis Club opened its -season on Saturday afternoon last, when there was a good muster of members, and an enjoyable afternoon was spent. The courts are in excellent order. ■■■!, ; .
