OUR NEW VICAR

EEV. LIONEL HAKVIE. APPIiECIATIOX IX EPSOM. The last issue of ‘‘ St. Andrew’s Parish Xotes and Diocesan Gazette,” puli slu'd in Epsom, contains the following article, which shows the high esteem in which the Rev. Lionel Harvie (vicar-elect for Cambridge) is held in his present parish:—■ “After having been in charge of St. Andrew’s for nearly eight years our vicar has been offered and has accepted the living of St. Andrew’s, Cambridge. The vicar’s departure will be greatly regretted by all of us, and will leave a big gap very hard to fdl. As well as being pastor of his flock he* has been a personal friend of every one in the parish, young and old. “It will be remembered that Mr Harvie came to us An troublous times. We were all feeling the strain of the Great War, and among others in our Dominion were fast learning what this gigantic straggle meant. Many of ns look back with thankfulness to our vicar for his help and deep sympathy in those days. “During Mr Harvie’s tenure of office many changes have taken place, and St. Andrew’s has progressed wonderfully. He leaves a church, which by his devoted efforts has nearly doubled itself in congregation, and an earnest body of workers whose pleasure it has always been in harmony with him for the advancement of our church and parish. “We know we are voicing the deepest feelings of regret of every parishioner in the departure of Mr and Mrs Harvie and their young family. We most sincerely hope that their work in their new sphere of labour will be as successful and as greatly blessed as it has been at St. Andrew’s, Epsom. “In order that as many as possible may have an opportunity of personally saying an re voir to Mr and Mrs Harvie a farewell social will be held in the Parish Hall off Wednesday evening, 20th April, at 7.45, when it is hoped His Grace the Archbishop will preside. “The Vestry are now diligently seeking to find a suitable vicar to succeed Mr Harvie, but it may be some weeks before any definite announcement can be made. ilr Harvie’s last Sunday with us will be 24th April. —For the Vestry, .1. B. Lusk, Harry Frost, Wardens.”
