IN TROUBLE AGAIN

TWO CAMBRIDGE YOUTHS, A MONTH’S IMPRISONMENT - \ ; That they were simply laughing at their probation orders and it was time they were brought to their senses, was the opinion of the Bench when two Cambridge youths, Colin Muekesy and Gordon Allen Manning, appeared before Messrs H. Alan Bell and A. J. Arnold, .T’s.P., yesterday morning, charged } with unlawfully converting a. cycle to their own use. .The circumstances were that on Tuesday evening last Mackesy took a cycle from the back of the F.A.C. premises and with Manning, who rode his own machine, cycled into Hamilton. They returned in the early hours of the morning and replaced the machine,\ but not- before it had been considerably damaged. Manning was charged with being an accessory to the offence. Both accused pleaded guilty. - Albert Klaus, the owner of the cycle, said he left the .machine at the rear of the F.A.C. promises on Tuesday and subsequently discovered it . was missing. Next morning the eyefpwas returned in a badly damaged condition. The police further reported that the accused were at present on probation for a previous offence and that their general behaviour was bad. -

In convicting and-sentencing accused to one month’s imprisonment in Mt. Eden gaol the Bench said only a fortnight ago they had been given,, a chance, but they had simply laughed at the leniency extended to them. They had not appreciated the good homes they had and the Bench were determined to Mug them to their senses. Accused were also ordered to make good the damage done to the cycle.
