MONTHLY MEETING. [ • ' • ‘-a GENERAL BUSINESS, dr. ;% . —' v T The monthly meeting of the Cambridge Power Board was held in the board’s offices yesterday afternoon, when there were present: Messrs W. Harbutt (acting-chairman), J. S. Fisher, T. F. Richards, T. Martin, G. M. Watt, and T. A. Hicks. The engineer (Mr 11. C. Oaten) and secretary (Mr F. M- Oliver) were al*o in attendance. Overhanging Hedges. The Cambridge Road Board wrote stating that they will use every’ endeavour to assist the board in the matter of overhanging trees and hedges, which are likely to prove a menace, to the board’s lines. Mr Watt said his board wore desirous of co-operating with the Power Board, but they could only go as far as the law would allow. They could not force a property-owner to cut. down a hedge unless it could be proved that it was an obstruction to the view of the road. The secretary was instructed to* write thanking the board for assistance. A Sub-Contractor’s Claim. / Messrs Turnbull and Jones id reference- to a, sub-contractor’s (MF W. Windsor’s) claim for £324 against their firm for work clone in connection with the building of the board’s substations.

The acting-chairman said that as a sub-contractor of Messrs Turnbull and Tones, the board’s agents, payment was due by the board, but the. correctness of the claim was a matter that should be subject to private arbitration. Mr Windsor was working on a 10 per cent basis and had presented several claims to Messrs Turnbull' and Jones. ■. ' • _ ,Mr Watt thought that the matter was one for settlement between the board’s agents and the sub-contractor. Mr Fisher: Yes, but we are the responsible party and will have to , pay in the end. A ' Mr Hicks asked if the .board had not a clear receipt from 'their agents for all works. j The acting-chairman replied that all commissions had been paid to the agents for work done and materials supplied. . Mr Hicks thought the matter should be referred to the board’s solicitors. The chairman said the fault lay with the sub-contractor in not having approached the board earlier. # . It was’ resolved -that the secretary write the sub-contractor’s solieitjots requesting a detailed statement of" the claim, the board to consider saute and submit to private arbitration. It was also resolved to write Messrs Turnbull and Jones requesting a copy of the agreement between the Arm and the sub-contractor. Purchase of Transformers. „ , It was resolved that tenders for ' transformers be reviewed by the chairman and Mr Hicks. Accounts. > f Accounts amounting to £351 11/1 were passed for payment.
