DIFFERENTIAL POLICY : ; FARMERS' UNION ACTION At the monthly meeting of the Cam; bridge Branch of the N.Z.F.U. yesterday afternooh, the president (Mr R. ;Feja«?t) reforred to the subject of the EailvTny Department's differential railway charges and supported the contentions and action adopted by the local Chamber of Commerce at its recent meeting. It was apparently the Department's policy, said the president, that where the railway'met strong opposition in river and other classes of freighting, provision was made for "local" freight charges to apply t*. that particular district." In the Cambridge'district'we were in a similar position to Te Aroha where "local" freight charges applied, and the speaker contended that a distinct asset would be lost if an effort was not made to make use of this opportunity.
