Wells, otor esteemed towiiswoman, h:us been ilficially,. -nominated as the queen candidate to represent-the Citizens in the Ban'd'Queen CaraivaL Mrs Wells has kindly consented to represent, the citizens and 'her decision in this connection is a still further indication of her splendid citizenship and gracious desire to take an active interest in anything appertaining to the welfare and promotion, of the town's social and other activities. , ISO rABMERS' CANDIDATE. As v ei>6n.d attempt to organise a.committee. |to further the interests .of a r mers' candidate in the Band Queen Carnival was made yesterday afternoon, when a meeting was held in the Coun«il Chambers, but again there was a very meagre attendance.

In view of the lack of interest manifested by the farming community in the formation of a committee, it was felt that the triangular contest .was not ■desired by farmers, and consequently Jt was resolved not to enter a. candidate but it was hoped that individually the farmers would extend their support, to -''the movement.

A prominent farmer informs us that the farmers are not indifferent to the Carnival'; in fact they will loyally support the other candidates. However, it is a very busy time for farmers, and. -as there seems no hope of a strong committee of men offering their services for the organisation that would be necessary, it was thought better to assist. other candidates rather than nominate «. farmers' candidate.
