QUEEN CARNIVAL

SPORTS QUEEN CAMPAIGN. MRS. JOHN PEAKE' CHOSEN.' A well-attended and • enthusiastic meeting of the above committee was held a few days ago for the purpose of electing a queen candidate to represent the sporting fraternity of the district at the forthcoming queen carnival, Mr V. Cornaga being in the chair. The Sports' Candidate. On the unanimous' vote of those present the choice fell on Mrs John Peake, who was duly elected with, general expressions of approval. Mrs Peake has since consented to accept nomination, and the various, sports bodies and their supporters may congratulate themselves on their good fortune in securing as their candidate one who has done- so much to make the fair name of Cambridge, resound throughout the sporting c.i ivies of New Zealand. Ladies' Committee. The following,, were selected to form the nucleus of a Ladies' Committee to be. .organised to work in conjunction with.,: the ~ Sports Committee: Mrs France Swayne, Misses M. Drigg, V. Gai> land, 11. Geinmell, and Jessie Thompson. The remainder of the time, was spent in formulating and organising various schemes for raising funds for the sports queen campaign. Many excellent proposals were put forward and noted, and the public are assured that the month of November will be one to !><• long remembered in-the annals of the town for sport and carnival.
