QUEEN CARNIVAL

GOOD PROSPETCS. CENTRAL COMMITTEE MEETING. A mooting of the Central Committee of the Band Queen Carnival Committee was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening at 7.30 p.m., when the chairman (Mr E. B. Cox) presided.

Representatives of the Sports and Citizens Committees reported that they had been successful in establishing strong committees, had chosen their queen candidates and were ready to commence operations. Mr J. S. Fisher, representing the farmers, stated that slow progress had been made in forming a Farmers Committee, but he had hopes of establishing the nucleus of a committee and to ultimately place a candidate in the con-' test. Mr E. B. Cox also strongly supported a triangular contest. Fanners Committee. It was resolved to interview the following with a. view to forming a. Farmers' Selection Committee: Messrs AV. Sands, W. Harbutt, AV. B. and L. D. Be Lrttour. Brewer, \V. Perkins, H. B. Nolan, C. Bridgman, .T. Butler, P. C. Petersen, and Mesdames Hicks, Geo. McCullagh, and J. T. "Entwlslc. A meeting is called for to-morrow aft'TMion at 2.30 p.m. in the Council Chambers, when all interested are invited to a!tend. CITIZE N'S COMMITTEE. A well attended and enthusiastic meeting of the above Committee was held last evening in the Council Chambers, Mr E. Veale presiding. The following additions were made to the Committee: —Mesdames H. Hall, S. Lewis, T. A. Mitchell, 11. Speight, M. Anderson, G. B. Simpson, C. Wood, C. W. Boyee, F. L. Tucker, A. E- Peppercorn, Ward, H. Bell, Hopkirk, Vintill. Upton, Dallimore, Shaw, Brittain, R. Hill, Misses Campbell, Armstrong, G. McLarnon, and Dryden. Messrs C. Shaw, Brittain, R. Hill, W. Meanie and S. Hull. Mr W. H. Woolley was elected secretary to the Committee. SPORTS QUEEN.

GETTING BUSY,

The Sports Queen candidate committee is getting very busy already, and elsewhere announces a jumble stall sale for Saturday morning next in Empire Street. Donations for this are solicited.

A. weight-guessing competition will be held at Mr Grimes' shop on Friday of next week, 7th November, and further special efforts are in contemplation.
