SCHOOL .EXTENSION OPENING

A very enjoyable and successful concert was held in the lioto-o-vangi school on Friday evening last in aid of the school library fund, when there was an attendance of about 140.

Mr A. 11. Cox presided and in his opening remarks mentioned that it had been intended to hold the oflicial opening of the school extensions and improvements in conjunction «with the concert, but the committee had decided to defer the oflicial opening until it was convenient for the member for the district (Mr F. Lye) to attend. At the conclusion of the vocal and instrumental programme an appetising supper was provided by the Roto-o-rangi ladies, after which dancing was indulged in for an hour or so. Glover; piano solo, Miss Hawkins (encored); recitation, “Guilty or or Not Guilty,” Mrs Barford; solo, “Just,” Mrs Nolan, eneore, “Just a Wearyin’ for You”: monologue, “Bunch of Roses,” Mrs Alsdorf, encore, “Butterflies”; song, “Tip-toe,” Miss Penn, encore “When Apples Grow on the Lilac Tree”; song, “Singers and Talkers,” Mr J. Sherris, encore “Homeland”; song, Mr R. Sherris, “Apple Dumplings” and encore, “Hats olf to the Stoker”; song, Mr Caldwell, encored; song Mr G. Gutry, “ Valley by the Sea,” encored; Mr and Mrs Gutry, duet, “Flow on Thou Shining River”; song, Mr Sherris, “The King’s Minstrels”; song, Miss K. Penn, “I Wish I Were a Tiny Bird.”

Miss Hawkins, of Waihi, and Mr IL Sherris played a number of the accompaniments.
