Mr F. C. Bunyard, late of Cambridge, and Hamilton, has been appointed engineer to tho Rotorua Borough Council.

Mr J. Higgins has tendered his resignation as engineer to the Hauraki Plains County Council. Rev'. Fathor Dore, of Hamilton, has been seriously ill during tho last few days. However, his condition yesterday showed a distinct improvement. Mr A. W. Sims, of the Otago University (the champion tennis player) has posed his final examination, and qualified as a dental surgeon. Many friends in this district will be pleased to' hear of his well-earned success. Count Wrangel, son of the late/ -a Swedish Ambassador to Britain, panied by Mr N. Barkman, of Stofik-'' holm, Sweden, arc on a visit to the Ruakura Farm. Mr E: A. Hart, Victoria Street, Cambridge, has received intimation that his son, Mr Ben Hart, has passed his final medical examination. We join many district friends in extending our congratulations to Mr Hart. The election of a member of the Auckland University College Council as representative of members of the legislature resident in the Auckland Province resulted in the return of Mr G. H. Wilson. The voting was: Mr G. H. Wilson, 16; Mr T. Bloodworth, 5. Mr Will Lawson, the well-knowm journalist, who has been on the staff of the Sydney Daily Guardian since leaving Mew Zealand last voar, is about to take uf) his residence in San Francisco, in order to engage in literary and publicity work. The death occurred at Xorthcote on Wednesday night of Mrs Grace Greenshields Lockie, wife of Mr James Loelcie, well known as a customs official at Auckland until his retii’oment four years ago. Mrs. Lockie, who was born near Glasgow, Scotland, 64 j'oars ago, arrived at Auckland with her parents, two brothers, .and a sister, in the ship Helenslea, at Christmus, 59 years ago.

A very pleasing ceremony took place yesterday at Hamilton when the members of St. Mary's Convent ehoir presented their conductor, Mr Gladstone Hill, with two largo musical / volumes, “The Lure of Music” and the “Life of Bach,” in honour of their successes at the recent competitions. Mr Hill suitably replied, and in doing so paid a tribute to the thorough work of the Sisters and the application of the girls themselves.

At the Tennis Club’s dance on Thursday night, the trophies for the Club’s competitions were presented. In the unavoidable abseneo of the Club’s president. (Mr E. B. Cox) through illness, Mr Frank Penn (vice-president) presented the prizes, and in doing so, congratulated the winners on their y .. earned successes. Ho mentioned that was pleasing to note that the prizes b'acLbeen won by two of the most enthusiastic young members of the Club. The Men’s Handicap .Singles (Mr E. B. Cox’s trophy) had been won by Mr J. Hunter, and Mr Frank Penn’s trophy for the Ladies’ Handicap Singles by Miss Molly Armstrong.

A pleasing feature of the annual reunion of the Foneourt suppliers of the Cambridgo Dairy Company, held at the factory last evening, occurred when Mr F. Lye, M.P., on behalf of the suppliers, presented the Fencourt. braneh manager (Mr C. Foskett), in view of his approaching marriage, with a handsome solid leather travelling bag as a token of their interest in his -f uture and appreciation of. the splendid.service to the Company during nine years, two years of which he had been braneh manager at Fencourt. Hr Lye referred in complimentary terms of the recipient’s splendid qualities and capabilities as a manager and servant of the Company. LATE SOCIAL NEWS. Mr and Mrs Y. H. Nolan, of Cambridge, are at present on a visit to Auckland, and aro staying at ” Cargen.” Mrs Webb and her dauglitor, after a stay of several weeks with Mrs W. J. White, left for her home in Tauranga on Wednesday. FIVE HUNDRED EVENING. On Wednesday evening the Domain Croquet Club held a very enjoyable five hundred evening at Mrs White’s residence, as a farewell to Mrs Smithers, one of the Club’s first and best members. There were seven tables. The prizes were, won by: Ladies, Miss Lewis; gents, Mr Holliday; consolation prizes, Miss W rat ten and Mr Morrison. Aftor supper the president (Mrs; J. White), in a neat little speech, half of the Club, presented Mrs ers with a burnished copper rose bowl. Mrs Smi fliers, who was completely taken by surprise, thanked the members for their lovely present, and wished the Club continued success. All joined in singing “For she’s u jolly good fellow.” This brought a very pleasant evening to a close.
