'CAMBRIDGE V. TE AWAMTJTU. I WIN FOR HOME TEAM. On Saturday afternoon last the Cambridge Tennis Club played its first matehs of the season, the A team travelling by private motors to Te A walnut u, where they met the local Club’s representatives. The weather was exceedingly hot —one of the hottest days of the season —and made singles rather strenuous, but despite this the match was a most enjoyable one. The Cambridge Club has lost several good players sinci last year, and on Saturday was wjffi&ft the services of Swavne, Mrs 'Bwayne, and Miss Hally. The match resulted in a win for the home 'team by fifteen sets to nine (173 games to 1-14). The men’s singles were equally divided —three wins each. To Awaomutu won four of the six ladies’ singles. all the doubles, both men’s and ladies’, while Cambridge won four of the combined doubles. Many of the matches were most interesting, and won by narrow margins, six being lost bv only one game. i The visitors were most hospitably entertained by the Te Awamutu ladies, and, though defeated, returned home well pleased with the day’s outing. The Cambridge B team journeyed to "Horahora by motors, and indulged in a very enjoyable match on the Horahora courts, which were in- very fair order. As usual on such occasions, the visitors were right royally entertained, and came home delighted with the treatment they had received. The match resulted in a win for the Cambridge players by fifteen sets to five (105 games to 08). Only two ladies’ singles were played.
