PERSONAL ITEMS Mrs Edward Allen, "Warwick," sails by the lonic for England. Mrs W. Maberly left on Thursday morning on an. extended trip to Australia. She sailed by the Niagara from Auckland yesterday. ■'-, Miss Banks and her neice, Ehoda Banks, went to Auckland on Monday. Mrs J. B. Lusk, of Auckland, returned home on Monday. Mr and Mrs Milburn have taken up their residence in Mr A. X. Thomson 's house, in Grey Street. Mr and Mrs V. R. Meredith, of Auckland, who have boon staying at the National Hotel, left on Wednesday. Miss' F. Blackett, sister of Mrs F. Bycroft, of Cambridge, sailed by the Niagara for Australia yesterday, en route to India. Dr and Mrs Todd have taken up their residence in Dr Edmonds' house, and the doctor will carry on the practice during Dr Edmonds' absence. SOCIAL AFTERNOON On Friday Miss Banks gave a most enjoyable afternoon tea for Mrs J. B. Lusk, of Auckland. The flowers used for decorating were violets and daphne. Miss Banks received in a mauve knitted frock, i Amongst those present were Mesdames J. B-. Lusk, E. B. Cox, N. Banks, Nicoll, Carpenter, Stapley, Wells, Misses Willis (2), Cox, Gwynneth. BRIDGE PARTY On Monday evening Mrs Mervyn .Wells, of' "Oakleigh." entertained a number of her lady friends at bridge There were four tables, and it was a most enjoyable party. The fine large dining room was m'cd for playing and was gay with bowls of

pink camelias and daphne. A most delicious supper was served at the close of the bridge. Mrs M. Wells received her guests in a soft black satin frock brocaded with large pink roses. Mrs E. E.' Roberts was in a black georgette and white and

gold frock; Mrs Vickcrs, white crepe de chine; Mrs Nicoll, blue georgette headed in white; Mrs Singer, black satin and lace, with trails of crimson flowers; Mrs H. Lewis, saxe blue silk trimmed with brocaded silk; Mrs .Carpenter, black silk and crepe de chine; Mrs Couper, gold satin and brown georgette; Mrs G. G. Taylor, black satin and lace frock with a girdle of flowers; Mrs Reed, black lace over white silk; Miss Cox, black net embroidered with blue sequins, and a blue and paisley silk scarf; Miss Christophers, crimson and purple hot charjnouse frock; Miss Lundon, black and white taffeta, the Avhite being embroidered in jet: Miss Dunne, shot blue and green taffeta; Miss Brann, peacock blue knitted silk frock; Miss Gwynneth. amethyst charmeuse.
