CAMBRIDGE DOMAIN

IMPOKTANT DECISIONV EE-VALUATION OF LAND A special meeting of the Cambridge Domain Board was held in the secretary’s office yesterday morning, the following members being present:— Messrs John Ferguson (chairman), C. H. Priestley (Mayor), E. N. Souter, G. M. Watt, and W. Stopford (secretary). The purpose of the meeting was to decide what should be clone in connection with reducing the rates on Domain lands. At previous meetings it had been suggested that 'steps be taken to have special legislation passed for the remittance of part of the rates. Another suggestion was that the Domain lands be re-valued. Ee-valuation Favoured At yesterday’s meeting the chairman said that, after discussing the matter with other members he had come to the conclusion that re-valuation would bo better than special legislation. It would be a simpler and much quicker method.

Mr Souter spoke of the inequitable way in which the land was valued at present. He knew of sections valued at £3 which were sold for £2.

Mr Priestley said the Finance Committee of the Borough Council had discussed this matter, and had decided to ask for a re-valuation of the whole Borough. The present high valuation struck the Council as well as the Domain Board. The Committee had ap- .

pointed a member to wait on the Department at Hamilton. They hoped the land would be valued so that grazing land would be valued as such, and not as building sites. Those who desired to live on the outskirts of the Borough and keep a cow should not be penalised. Application to Department It was unanimously resolved to make application to the Valuation Department for a re-valuation of Domain lands. •/
