PRESENTATION

McLEAN DRAKE TROPHY WON BY MATANGI ' During the interval of the AucklandCambridge rep. match on Saturday afternoon last, the opportunity, was taken to present the McLean trophy to the Matangi League Club, winners of the knock-out competition organised by the Cambridge Rugby League at the conclusion of the club competitions. In. making the presentation, His Worship the Mayor (Mr S. Lewis) congratulated the Matangi Club, in not only winning the knock-out competition, but also with being at the head of the local League Club competitions. The Matangi Club had, "throughout the season, taken their games seriously, turning out in full strength at each fixture, and .what was most pleasing to the spectators, the Club's players had always come on the field of play neatly dressed in correct uniforms. His Worship then called upon Mr Fred. Greenwood to come forward and receive the trophy, in the form of a silver drake suitably inscribed. Mr Greenwood, on behalf of the Matangi Club, thanked the donor of the trophy,'and His Worship.for his kindly reference to the Matangi Club. He "looked upon the boys as "his ducklings" and was proud of their winning the trophy and the senior club competition. It would be the endeavour of the club to uphold its prestige again next season.
