SPECIAL MEETING FIXING 01' THE KATE A special meeting of the Waipa County Council, held at Oliaupo on Wednesday, was attended by Crs D. S. Reid (chairman), C. M. Alexander, C. A. Crook, A. H. Storey, A. H. Crawford, A. Livingstone, E. J. Edwards, J. Fisher, A. Coxliead, S. C. Mucky, >E, F. Peacocke, A. H. Ellicott. The New Rates The proportional share of the general expenditure for each riding was set out as under: —Kalicpuku riding, £429; Orakau, £965; Tuhikaramea, £785; Newcastle, £1 ISO; Rangiaohia, £928; Hamilton, £750; Rukuhiu, £536; Ivaipaki, £536; Pukckura, £1429; Mangapiko, £1036; total, £8574. Kaipaki.—Special: id in the £ over area from Rangiaohia; l-32d in the £ over area from Pukckura. General I Id. Pukckura.—Special: l-32d in the £. General, 14 d. The chairman remarked that the policy was to work towards placing every riding on a solid footing, and one riding would work in with the other meantime. .Speaking of interest on riding overdraft, the chairman said that this was a charge on tile whole county. Estimates The following estimates for the year 1922-1923, were submitted for the. Pukckura and Kaipaki ridings respectively:— Pukckura. —Expenditure: To balance old Pukckura Road Board, April Ist, 1922, £1044 7/5; less Pukckura ridingcredit balance, April Ist, 1922, £390 18/7; £653 8/10; balance brought down £.165 12/10; balance Rot.o-o-rangi Road Board, £5 19/2; proportionate share of estimated general expenditure, £.1429; Works: Expended to date, £393 4/9; balance available for expenditure, £2676 2/5; £3069 7/2; total, £4969 19/2. Income: by Kaipaki riding, £163 7/2; Mangapiko riding, £l9 1/2; Rangiaohia riding, £5 8/6 (transfer to proportionate shares of balance); balance carried down, £465 12/; £653 8/10; general rate of 14d in the £, £4500; subsidy on general rates, £469 19/2; total, £4969 19/2. Special rates to be collected, l-32d in the £.

Kaipaki—-Expenditure: To Pukckura riding (proportionate share of debit balance April Ist, 1922), £163 7/2; Rangiaohia riding (proportionate share of debit balance April Ist, 1922), £6" 3/9; proportionate share of estimated general expenditure, £536; Works: Expended to date, £256 5/10; balance available for expenditure, £llO4 1.1/5; £1360 17/3; total, £2066 8/2. Income: General rate of 1:1 d in the £, £1937; subsidy on general rates, £129 8/2; total, £2066 8/2. Special rates to be collected: Id in the £ over area from Rangiaohia; l-32d in the £ over area srom Pukckura. General Expenditure

The estimated general expenditure for the year Ist April, .1922, to March 3.lst, 1923, totalled £.10,325. Included among the items were the following: Interest on machinery loan, £720; interest on loan on main bridges,. £444 .4/9; salaries, £2080; high level bridge, Cambridge, £132; hospital fees, £3401 19/; interest on overdraft, £600; travelling expenses of councillors and the chairman, £365. Estimated receipts/to set off against expenditure total 1751. Included in this amount is a sum of 1396 for hire of machinery.

The Pukpjtura riding is allotted £1429 of this expenditure, and the Kaipaki riding £536.
