FENCOURT DRAINAGE BOARD

STRIKING OF RATE i ...b. : CONTRACTS CONFIRMED A meeting of the Fencourt Drainage Board was held in Mr E. Veale's office yesterday afternoon, for the purpose of striking a rate for the present year. There were present: Messrs J. T. Entwislc (chairman), "VV. Moore, E. Fcisst, H. S. Wyatt and W. C. Wallace. Contracts The action of the members in accepting the following tenders for cleaning drains was approved:—No. 1, A. C. Taylor, 2/6; No. 2, A. C. Taylor, 2/6; No. 3, A. C. Taylor, 5/; No, 4, A. Stokes, 3/; No. 5, A. Cochrane, 8/6. It was moved by Mr Moore and 'seconded by Mr Wallace that the Cambridge Road Board be asked to pay £2 10/, being half the cost of straightening a drain to protect Feisst's bridge, which work had been done by the Drainage Board. 1 General Rate A discussion took place as to the fixing of the general rate for the year. The secretary stated that if the same rate were struck this year as last, the Board would just have sufficient to meet expenses. Consequently it was considered that the rates should be slightly increased to allow a little surplus for maintenance. Next year the district is to be revalued, and as this will increase the income, the rates will then be reduced again. ■ On the motion of Mr Moore, seconded by Mr Feisst, the following rate was .struck for the year ending 31st March, 1923:—Class A, lid (Id); Class B, 7/8(3 (2-d); Class C, 5/Sd (id). The figures shown in parentheses represent last year's rates. The rate struck will be confirmed at the -next meeting of the Board, on August ISth. Balance Sheet The balance sheet for the year ending March 31st, .1922, was presented, and shewed a credit of £4O on the general account and a credit of £316 3/6 on the loan account. It was decided to return the balance on the loan account. Accounts Accounts amounting to £26 2/9 were passed for payment.
